Idoru bluelines, donated by William Gibson
Thanks for checking this page, but the item described here has been claimed as a reward by a happy donor, and is no longer available. These are the bluelines for William Gibson's novel Idoru published by G.P. Putnam's Sons, 1996.
Bill says, "This is the only one of these I've ever seen. A set of signatures printed in pale turquoise. Definitely odd-looking.... It's got a lot of cryptic hand-notation on the front."
Bluelines are photographic contact prints made from the film that will be used to print the book; they are used to check for production problems, such as misalignments, bad margin widths, or scratches and spots on the film.
Writers don't usually get to see them, as they are in the purview of the production department, rather than editorial, and nobody wants the author making changes at this point. They are expensive to produce, and usually only one set is made. These were forwarded to Bill long after Idoru was published. Definitely an unusual item, almost certainly one of a kind.
Bluelines are sensitive to light, giving them a resonance with Gibson's ephemeral AGRIPPA (A Book of The Dead). You can have them, or you can look at them: a conceptual bonus for the irony-enabled collector of Gibsoniana.
Description: Bluelines for William Gibson's novel "Idoru." May be a one-of-a-kind item: usually only one set of bluelines is made in the production of a book. Signed on the front by Gibson. Marked up in production process, checkmarks/initials for production approvals, etc.
